The game is set within the Hyperdimension Neptunia universe where players take on the role of adorable personifications of gaming consoles. The characters live in the world of Gamindustri (yes, "game industry") which is split into four regions, each one representing a distinct gaming console. There have been nearly a dozen core games and spinoffs in the series as well as manga and anime adaptations. Idea Factory International recently released a short gameplay trailer that gives you a good idea of the look & feel of the game:
This particular game will be focusing on a journey through the world of Alsgard featuring an array of colorful characters. Gamers can utilize hack-and-slash gameplay either by themselves or cooperatively online to fight monsters, collect loot, and have a good ol' time in the digital world. The game's story is centered on a sort of meta-plot where characters that more or less represent video game consoles will be beta-testing a new online game. In essence, you are personified game consoles playing a game inside of a game like some kind of digital Matryoshka doll. Of course, things aren't as simple as taking a new game for a whirl - you'll find that the dark Demon King is threatening the world and must be fought in order to save the digital world.
Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online will release on October 10, 2017, in North America and October 13 in Europe for the PlayStation 4. The PC version of the game will release on Steam sometime in early 2018.
