Cuphead's extraordinarily unique animation and graphical style is based on old 1930s cartoons, so it's not hard to imagine that it could translate well into a TV show. Now, this idea is reality with a partnership between Netflix and King Features Syndicate, with the cartoon taking the title The Cuphead Show!

According to a press release by Netflix, the premise of The Cuphead Show! is as follows:

The character-driven comedy follows the unique misadventures of the impulsive Cuphead and his cautious but easily swayed brother Mugman. Through their many misadventures across their surreal home of the Inkwell Isles, they’ve always got one another’s backs.
While this doesn't sound any different from the game itself, there's a wide cast of characters and unique settings on Inkwell Isles for animators to play with.

Additionally, Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, the two brothers at the head of Studio MDHR (developers for Cuphead), will serve as Executive Producers for the show. Other members of The Cuphead Show! team includes CJ Kettler as Executive Producer, who is the current president of King Features Syndicate. The press release also says that "The series will be produced by Netflix Animation and is executive produced by Emmy and Annie Award-winning producer, Dave Wasson (Mickey Mouse Shorts) and Cosmo Segurson (Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling) serves as co-executive producer."

There is no release date for The Cuphead Show! just yet, but in the meantime, you can look forward to an upcoming Cuphead DLC called The Delicious Last Course set to launch next year. Make sure to keep up-to-date with TechRaptor and monitor the Netflix page for The Cuphead Show, although nothing loads there right now.

Quick Take

Studio MDHR deserves all the success, and I'm very interested to see how this show turns out. Cuphead is a great IP and appeals to just about any age group, in my mind. It's fascinating and exciting to see an indie studio rise to fame in such a short span of time. If things continue as they have been since Cuphead's launch in late 2017, this could be one of the most wide-reaching games of our generation.
