The Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course release date has been delayed until 2021, owing to a desire from the developers who don't want it to be "anything less than our best work."
Cuphead is a game that hearkens back to the nostalgia cartoons of the mid-20th century while also providing some intense shoot 'em up gameplay. Players have to carefully navigate the game's levels, shooting at various enemies using a variety of projectiles while avoiding incoming damage. As with most games of the style, it also features exceptionally-challenging bosses.
The Delicious Last Course was meant to close out the story of Cuphead, introducing a brand-new playable character and introducing a new region for players to enjoy. Now, it seems that you'll likely have to wait until sometime in 2021 before you'll get a chance to play it.
Why is the Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course Release Date Delayed?
The Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course release date is being delayed for a reason that we've heard far too many times this year: the ongoing pandemic. The work from home difficulties have thrown a wrench in the works and Studio MDHR is wholly unwilling to compromise on the quality of their vision.
"In true Studio MDHR fashion, we aren't content for this final chapter to be anything less than our best work," read a tweet from the developers (via Nibel). "Throughout development, we've challenged ourselves to put everything we learned from making Cuphead into the quality of The Delicious Last Course's animation, design, and music."
In the wake of the ongoing global pandemic affecting so many, we have made the difficult decision to push back the release of The Delicious Last Course. For our wonderful Cuphead community, we've prepared a letter from Studio MDHR founders Chad & Jared Moldenhauer to share more. pic.twitter.com/XiU57Wcn1y

When is the New Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course Release Date?
Unfortunately, Studio MDHR has not announced a specific Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course release date just yet. The expansion was supposed to launch in 2020 (and the Steam Store page for the DLC still reflects that at the time of writing), but it's not going to happen according to today's announcement — the DLC is pushed back until 2021.
"Rather than compromise on our vision in response to COVID, we've made the difficult decision to push back the release of The Delicious Last Course until we are confident it will delight the Cuphead community the way we feel it should," the announcement continued.
"We know many of you have been waiting to return to the Inkwell Isles, and our goal is to make the trip back there next year a truly magical one."
You'll (hopefully) be able to play Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course sometime in 2021. For now, you can buy the original game on Steam for 25% off as part of the Steam Autumn sale; you can buy the game for other platforms via its official website.
