Crytek, the creators of such games as Crysis and more recently the Xbox One exclusive Ryse: Sons of Rome, may be in some financial trouble.A German video game magazine called "Gamestar" has reported that recently Crytek has been having financial issues and because of this they may be facing bankruptcy.

Gamestar has multiple suggestions as to why the company is in this predicament including the lack of support for their CryEngine as well as the costs of development for Ryse and its poor sales. Due to a large push at the end of the development of Ryse Crytek also hired more employees which led them to their current employee count of over 800 which is extremely large for any game development company, this could also be the reason for their financial woes. For a console exclusive having this little sales was a large problem for Crytek. Reports of employees getting paid late and that employees are sending applications on to other video game studios.

Founder of Crytek, Avni Yerli, is rumored to have said that a cash injection for the company should be imminent but if it doesn't happen then a lot of other companies will be looking forward to a chance to get some of the talent that currently works at Crytek as well as a chance to get their hands on the Crytek IP's.

So far the only official news about these reports have been Crytek denying the article in Gamestar, this is of course to be expected.

[UPDATE] A Crytek spokesperson has come forward also saying that regardless of what some media are reporting they are rumors and Crytek is denying them. They are also continuing to work on Homefront: The Revolution, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, Arena of Fate, and Warface. As well as providing ongoing support for our CryEngine and its licensees.
