Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Preview Image

A remake of Final Fantasy spin off Crystal Chronicles is only a month away now. The Crystal Chronicles remaster has redone graphics and mechanics for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and mobile devices. It will mean that it's been almost 20 years since the game was originally released, but not all of the features fans were hoping for will be making the cut.

While the public concensus for Crystal Chronicles was favorable. Players would take up the mantle of adventurers from a small town, needing to venture out into the poison riddled world to fill their crystal chalice to protect their city for another year. Unlike most Final Fantasy games this is an ARPG allowing for free movement and combat, it also opened up the possibility of a co-op Final Fantasy adventure.

Getting friends together to play the game in co-op though was anything but easy. It wasn't as easy as plugging in a second Gamecube controller, each player needed a GameBoy Advance with a GNC-to-GBA link cable. On screen the players would be able to continue fighting and looting, but if they wanted to check their inventory or access settings it would be done on the GameBoy screen.

While this was a neat mechanic it did leave a bit to be desired. This unique method of multiplayer seems to have created difficulties when it comes to the remastered edition as it has been announced that there will be no console local multiplayer, only local between systems and online.

What do you think of the remaster of Crystal Chronicles not supporting local multiplayer? Is this a feature you were hoping for? Do you have any fond memories of Crystal Chronicles multiplayer?
