The Crusader Kings 2 Expansion Subscription has been announced by Paradox Interactive, aiming to give players access to the game's massive library of DLC at a reasonable monthly cost.
Crusader Kings 2 is a grand strategy game with a focus on establishing a royal dynasty in the period between 1066–1453 C.E. You can play the game against the A.I. or enter into a massive multiplayer contest with up to 32 other players. It also has an absolute truckload of DLC and a new player might balk at the price, but a new Expansion Subscription option should make getting into this game a little more palatable.
Expansion Subscription Takes the Edge Off of DLC Pricing
The Crusader Kings 2 Expansion Subscription is a pretty good deal for new players, reducing any risk of spending hundreds of dollars on DLC for a game you ultimately don't enjoy.
Buying all of the current Crusader Kings 2 DLC would cost you a hefty $305.71 — certainly not pocket change, but far away from the astonishing DLC costs of games like Train Simulator. (The Crusader Kings 2 base game was made free-to-play when Crusader Kings 3 was announced back in 2019.)
"With so much additional content available, the cost for new Crusader Kings II players can seem prohibitive or intimidating," explained Paradox Community Manager PDX_Pariah in a post on the publisher's forums. "This is an affordable way for players to experience the entire Crusader Kings II catalog without having to weigh which items they would prefer to purchase."
What Does the Crusader Kings 2 Expansion Subscription Cost?
The Crusader Kings 2 Expansion Subscription costs just $4.99 a month. That's not a bad price, especially when all of the game's DLC costs well over $200.
Paradox tends to go in-depth for its games and that DLC price would probably be worth it if you're one of those people that would play a game like this for thousands of hours. New players, however, might balk at the cost — and that's exactly why this new subscription service was created. At $4.99 a month, it would take you 62 months to have surpassed the total cost of the DLC in your subscription fees.
If this sounds like a good deal to you, you can play Crusader Kings 2 for free on Steam and get started with the Crusader Kings 2 Expansion Subscription for just $4.99 a month. Naturally, you'll still have the option to purchase any of the game's DLC that you'd like to keep.
