A Crunchyroll Nintendo Switch app has launched on Nintendo's hybrid handheld console, bringing the anime streaming service to the third of the big three gaming consoles.

Crunchyroll is best known as one of the largest sites for streaming anime and reading manga. While the company has dipped its toe into the world of publishing videogames, its primary focus has largely been on bringing the latest anime and manga to the West. Now, you'll be able to watch Crunchyroll anime on your Nintendo Switch.

The Crunchyroll Nintendo Switch App is a Welcome Addition

The Crunchyroll Nintendo Switch app debuted today as highlighted on Reddit. As you might expect, it offers the opportunity to watch pretty much everything that is available on the site's massive (and constantly growing) catalog of anime.

Notably, the app was already available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as of late 2020. It took some time for the app to finally make its way to the Switch; with this addition, Crunchyroll is now available on all three modern gaming consoles (and PC, natch).

While the Crunchyroll Nintendo Switch app can be used in both docked and handheld mode, offline viewing isn't available to everyone. As today's announcement notes, offline viewing is a perk reserved for the Mega Fan ($9.99/month) and Ultimate Fan ($14.99/month) subscription tiers.

Crunchyroll isn't the first anime app that was made available on the Nintendo Switch. Competing anime service Funimation launched its app in late 2020. That said, the addition of Crunchyroll greatly expands the options available to anime fans.

You can download the Crunchyroll Nintendo Switch App for free on the eShop. If you want to make the most of the app, though, you're going to want to get a Crunchyroll membership starting at $7.99/month.
