Only about a year after its initial release, the developers of CrossfireX say that the game will be ending service as of May 18, 2023, and will no longer receive any further content updates.
CrossfireX was released on February 10, 2022, for Xbox consoles, and the game did come with a few mixed reviews. Some loved the game and others -- not so much. Even so, right before the game's one-year anniversary, the developers announced the service will be shutting down in just a few months. The team states,
"It is with the deepest regret that we are informing you of our decision to end support for CrossfireX on May 18, 2023. Since the launch of the game, we have worked tirelessly to bring it to a point where we can all be proud, and throughout it all we have had the honor and pleasure of supporting our players."
The statement added that coming to this decision was not easy, but the developers are proud of the support they received from all of their active players. They thank everyone for their love and enthusiasm for CrossfireX and for those who stuck around for their journey down the road of game development.
As of right now, all Xbox sales have been halted meaning the game is no longer available for purchase from today onward. There will not be any further updates made to the game, including new maps, modes, and camos for weapons. Anyone who has purchased the game within the last 14 days might be able to receive a refund for the game, though it's not specified what the parameters for refund eligibility may be.
The game servers will officially be shut down on May 18, 2023, but up until that point players who have had the game installed will be able to enjoy the current content available. For those who may have more questions about this decision, the devs have made an FAQ page that goes over what exactly to expect with this shutdown.
