Crayta, from the award-winning development studio Unit 2 Games, will be available as a First on Stadia title this summer.

The newly reannounced title will use the Unreal Engine 4 to provide an accessible suite of development tools that will give an entry point for players to create games. It's a free-to-play platform that will encourage and reward "... creativity, community support, and collaboration."

Fernando Melo, founder of Crayta Indie Fund developer Double Blit Games and former Bioware producer, has been impressed by Crayta’s offering:

“It’s like a giant game development toybox! It’s so powerful, and it’s an amazing feeling to be able to jump straight in and get your ideas on screen without any of the usual barriers.”

The company was founded in 2017 and has been working on Crayta for the past 3 years. A 'diverse' group of developers has been creating launch titles for the platform as part of the Indie Fund programme, which ran last year. You don't have to be an amazing coder/developer though, as novice players can apparently publish a 'simple' multiplayer game "... within a matter of minutes without the need to code or use other specialized skills..." Of course, that doesn't mean that advanced developers will be left out in the cold as they can do cool things as well, but this seems like a game targeted to a general audience rather than just hardcore developers.

Unit 2 Games Publishing Director, Chris Swan, is excited to see what the indie development community can do with Crayta’s power:

“Our Indie Fund developers were amazingly creative and have crafted some fantastic games already, so we can’t wait to see what the rest of the indie community will do with the tools.”

Crayta will launch this summer on Stadia, and will also be available as part of the Stadia Pro package this Summer. For more information, be sure to click here.

A very unflattering picture of my tired face.
