Today Activision and developer Toys For Bob announced the release date and more details about the next Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Team Rumble.

It'll launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on June 20, 2023. Cross-platform gameplay will be available. A closed beta will also be hosted between April 20 and April 24, but you need to pre-order the game to gain access. You can do so at the official website. Pre-orders also grant access to the Retro Threads Tawna skin.

The game is a 4v4 team-based multiplayer title in which players can play three different roles, Blocker, Booster, or Scorer to compete over who manages to grab more Wumpa fruits and get them in their drop-off zone while also hindering the opposing team.

Two editions are available, the standard edition will grant access to the Premium Battle Pass for Season 1 and costs $29.99. A Deluxe Edition is priced at $39.99 and comes with the following goodies.

  • Premium Battle Pass Unlock for Seasons 1 + 2
  • Digital Proto Pack. Includes:
    • 8 ‘Blocky' hero skins
    • 'Pixelated' Shadow
    • 'Get On My Level' In-Game Victory Music
    • 'Blocky' Hat
    • 'Blocky' Backpack
    • 'Blocky' Score FX
    • Unique Banner
  • 25 Tier Instant Unlock for Season 1 Premium Battle Pass

If the mention of a battle pass isn't enough, yes, this is unsurprisingly a full-fledged game-as-a-service, likely surprising no one ever.

The announcement comes with a trailer, which you can watch below.

The closed beta will feature Crash Bandicoot, Coco, Tawna, Neo Cortex, and Dingodile, on top of three maps.

The press release includes a comment from Paul Yan, Co-Studio Head at Toys For Bob.

“We’re incredibly excited for fans to get an early hands-on with Crash Team Rumble during April’s Closed Beta. We truly value the community’s feedback and will use this input to fine tune the game for an amazing player experience on launch day. See you in the Closed Beta!”
