If you've been hankering for a Control 2 announcement, fear not, because that's now a reality. With 3 million copies of the original game sold, it probably seemed like a no-brainer for Remedy Entertainment and 505 Games to team back up for Control 2. The budget is almost being doubled, with the original title being created for "less than €30 million" compared to the $51.52 million dollar budget of the sequel. Considering how nice the game looked on the AA-sized budget of the first game, a AAA-sized budget for the sequel should produce some fantastic results.
Remedy will retain ownership of the game's intellectual property, with the "development, marketing, and post-launch investments as well as the future net revenues" being equally split by 505 Games and Remedy Entertainment. Control 2 will be built upon Remedy's Northlight game engine and will be released on the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is to be published by Remedy on PC and 505 Games on consoles.
Rami and Raffi Galante, co-CEOs of Digital Bros Group/505 Games, had this to say about Control 2:
"We are excited to deepen our cooperation with Remedy and continue the success story of Control together...Control is the biggest investment 505 Games has ever made, so it has a special place in our hearts. We are grateful to the whole player community that has made Control such a long-lasting and loved game, and are even more excited to bring out Control 2.”
Control 2 was originally teased last year as a "high-level collaboration... for a bigger-budget Control game", but it seems that it took until now to hammer out the fine details. The game is currently in the concept stage, so it's going to be a while until you can take control (heh) of your own destiny once again.
