Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Zombies is something that was cut out of this franchise's reboot, and now we're getting our first look at what we could have enjoyed thanks to concept artist Aaron Beck.
You might not know Aaron Beck by name, but he's certainly got an impressive résumé. He began his career at Weta Workshop, the company that is perhaps best known for creating much of the physical props in The Lord of the Rings franchise. He did some more work for other movies like Avatar and Mad Max: Fury Road before getting picked up as a Call of Duty concept artist; his work on that franchise includes Infinite Warfare and the newest incarnation of Modern Warfare.
Now, Aaron Beck has been given the greenlight to share some concept art from the Modern Warfare Zombies mode that we never got on his Instagram.
"Finally got clearance to share more art from Modern Warfare!" Beck began. "So to begin[,] here’s an unused concept from early in production. I was thinking it would be fun to play with the classic Call of Duty zombie gameplay, hinting here at some sort of Russian special forces soldier and his duo of quadruped robots, holding captive zombified soldiers by leashes around their necks.
Will We Ever Get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Zombies?
This concept art certainly looks pretty cool, and it might make some of us miss the classic zombie-blasting experience. Will we ever get it in Call of Duty?
Way back in 2019, Campaign Gameplay Director Jacob Minkoff addressed the subject of zombies and why they're not included. The newest CoD aimed for a more realistic take, and something like zombies just doesn't fit into that format. That said, the future isn't set in stone — we may get to shoot zombies someday after all.
Aaron Beck's post indicates that he may share more concept art in the future; you can follow Aaron Beck on Instagram to potentially see some more Call of Duty concept art. You can also see his work in video games and movies on his official website aaronbeck.com.
