Code Vein, the action-RPG title from Namco Bandai that was first revealed in 2017, is finally seeing the light of day.

A brand new trailer for Code Vein was dropped during E3 2019, and with it was not only a showcase of the game's action but also a solid release date for later this year.

The trailer shows off numerous characters called the vampire-like Revenants in a post-apocalyptic setting, struggling to survive and feed off their need for blood, or else they transform into creatures known as the Lost. The Revenants live in a "eat or be eaten" world, and the player must help them navigate the landscape in order to survive.

Code Vein will allow players to create their own character and equip a multitude of weapons, items, and skills to fight against impossible odds, with a part of A.I controlled partners flanking their back. Much of the information known about the game mostly comes from previous beta tests of the title from fans, though it has caused Bandai Namco to postpone the game's release until 2019. A closed network test ran last month for the game, allowing players to test out the progress made on Code Vein before its release date announcement today.

Code Vein is scheduled for release on the PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 27th.

Quick Take

Code Vein has kind of flown under the radar for a while now. Last year at E3 it had a small showing, but no true details of substance have ever really been released, other than the game's influence being Dark Souls and similar action-RPGs. The new trailer shows off the game's style and some of its combat and story beats, but how it will truly play is still largely a mystery. Hopefully the long development time, along with the numerous closed network tests, have been fruitful.
