Civilization VI to get Modding Tools, Australian Faction

Civilization VI John Curtin

Since the release of Sid Meier's Civilization VI last year, players have been eagerly anticipating the promised Steam Workshop support that makes it easy to browse and install mods, as well as give modders an easy way to share their creations with the game's community. This wait, which arguably went on a bit longer than most people feel like it should have, is now almost over!

Multiplayer teams and mod tools have been two of the community’s most-requested features, and we’re happy to bring them to Civilization VI. Steam Workshop will allow you to browse, add, and subscribe to mods more easily, and the other tools will make it easier for artists and modders to express their creativity within the game. With the update to multiplayer you will be able to team up with your friends to conquer the world together against AI or human opponents.
This update will be free for anyone who owns a copy of Civilization VI. The update will feature a range of bug fixes and tweaks in addition to the inclusion of the Workshop support and the ability to form teams in multiplayer matches. What those changes are is anyone's guess at this point, but Firaxis have said that they will release more detailed patch notes closer to the patch's release.

The other big Civilization VI news is the announcement of the Australian Civ led by John Curtin, which will be added to the game as part of a premium DLC pack!

John Curtin was the 14th Prime Minister of Australia, serving his constituency from 1941 to 1945. During his time in office, Curtin led Australia through the threat of the ever-advancing Japanese armed forces in the Second World War, unifying the country behind one banner during his time in office. Curtin died shortly before the end of the Second World War and to this day is still regarded as an instrumental force behind Australia's heavily expanded social security system that dramatically improved the quality of life for many Australians.

Curtin's Unique Leader Bonus is Citadel of Civilization. This bonus gives Australia +100% production if they've either received a declaration of war from another Civ or if they've liberated a city from invading Civs in the last 20 turns.

Australia's Unique Ability is Land Down Under, which gives them +3 housing in cities built on the coast. Resource yields from Campuses, Commercial Hubs, Holy Sites and Theater Squares will get you +2 resources on tiles with a Charming Appeal and +4 on Breathtaking tiles.

Civilization VI Australia 1

Australia's Unique Unit is the Digger. The term 'Digger' was at one point used to refer to soldiers from Australia and New Zealand. Even though the term was originally used to refer to miners, people also started applying the term to the army, which many miners joined after Australia was properly settled. In Civilization VI, Diggers get some additional combat strength when fighting on tiles next to a water tile or when they are on a tile outside of Australia's borders.

Civilization VI Australia 2

Australia's Unique Improvement is the Outback Station. These stations are essentially farms and homesteads built in the harsh and unforgiving interior of the Australian Outback. Building one of these in Civilization VI gets you +1 food and production for each Pasture tile adjacent to the Outback Station and will get you even more bonuses as you advance your civ through the ages. The Stations can only be built on Desert and Desert Hill tiles, as well as on Grassland and Plains tiles.

Both the patch and the new faction will release in the not too distant future!

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
