Are you ready for another game that has you drop into an active warzone and fight other players inside of a slowly closing play area? Well good news, turn based tactical game Civilization VI is offering that now, with the all new battle royale-styled Red Death game mode.

The humorous new trailer gets you up to speed on the mode. 12 players will pick one of 9 factions and drop into a map at random points. They all start out with just a civilian, but they can wander around the map and find new units to recruit. Of course, it's a battle royale, so there's a wall of radiation, known as the red death, closing in on you and making the area smaller. Your goal is to either kill the other 11 players, or escape to a specific area that gets you on a space ship and into space.

Despite being a battle royale, Red Death will still play like Civilization VI by being a turn-based strategy game. The developers say rounds of Red Death last between 15 and 30 minutes depending on things like the skill of the players. You'll be able to play as mutants, pirates, cultists, and other weird post-apocalyptic tropes. You can also find nukes inside of supply crates, which I'm not entirely sure you want to drop in an already post-apocalyptic environment, but hey man. You do you. Anything to get that winner winner chicken dinner.

Civilization VI is available on PC and Nintendo Switch. The Red Death mode is available for free on PC right now. There is currently no word on if it will come to the Switch.

Are you going to try out Red Death? Do you think that Battle Royales have officially jumped the shark? Think it'll do better than Fortnite? Let us know in the comments below!
