Cities: Skylines - Mass Transit, the latest expansion for the city-building game by Colossal Order, will be launching on May 18th according to a press release from publisher Paradox Interactive.

Cities: Skylines is a city-building game created in a similar style to the SimCityOriginally launched in March of 2015, the game was seen by some to fill the void left by the absence of a SimCity game since 2013. The most recent Simcity game was not favorably received by critics going by its score of 64 on Metacritic (alongside a User Score of 2.2). Mass Transit will be the fourth major expansion for the game following SnowfallAfter Dark, and Natural Disasters (the latter of which we reviewed last year).

The core focus of this latest expansion for Cities: Skylines is, of course, new mass transit options. Ferries, cable cars, monorails, and blimps are being added to the game. These will nicely supplement the existing buses, subways, trains, and airplanes already in the base game. Managing all of these different systems can be a bit difficult, and for that reason the game will also be adding Transit Hubs. Transit Hubs will allow your citizens to shift between different modes of transportation all from within the same building.

In addition to the new transportation options, new scenarios with a specific focus on traffic management will be coming with this expansion. These will be supplemented with new options for roads, canals, and bridges. Cities: Skylines - Mass Transit launches on May 18, 2017 for $12.99 or your regional equivalent. In the meantime, you can add the DLC to your Wishlist on Steam.

Quick Take

The original Cities: Skylines had a few issues with traffic management at launch. The new toys being added in this expansion seem really cool, but I can't help but be concerned about how they've managed to work out the new traffic problems this will present. Still, the DLC and expansions released by Colossal Order has generally been favorably regarded so I hope that an expansion with a focus on traffic will bring some improvements to the problems seen in the initial release.

What do you think of the features touted in Cities: Skylines - Mass Transit? Do you think that Colossal Order has done a good job with providing interesting new content in their expansions so far? What would you like to see in the game next? Let us know in the comments below!
