Fans of Final Fantasy and frankly adorable-looking racing games, your time has come. The Chocobo GP release date has been announced. We'll be getting our hands on the feathery Final Fantasy kart racer this coming March.
What exactly is Chocobo GP?
Chocobo GP was originally announced back in September during a Nintendo Direct presentation. It's a Final Fantasy-themed take on the kart racing genre, as well as a follow-up to the 1999 PlayStation game Chocobo Racing. Like in Mario Kart, you'll race around a series of themed areas, drifting to build up speed and utilizing items to take out racers on the course or help your own performance. A range of online and offline modes will be available, including full online multiplayer support so you can prove you're the fastest Chocobo out there.

In addition to the above, Chocobo GP will also feature a full story mode, with appearances from beloved Final Fantasy characters like Gilgamesh, Steiner, and Vivi, among others. A free Lite version of the game will be available, featuring online and offline multiplayer as well as a preview of the story mode. Any progress you make in the Lite version carries over to the full game, so think of it as an extended demo. Square Enix says it'll reveal more information about the Lite mode in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that.
When is the Chocobo GP release date?
You can check out the Final Fantasy kart racer when it launches this coming March. The Chocobo GP release date is March 10th, 2022. That gives you a little under three months to wait until you can tear the track up and hear the iconic Chocobo theme. Naturally, this being a Final Fantasy spinoff, you can also expect to see and hear lots of other familiar elements from the series, as is the case with other spinoffs like Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy!.

Ahead of the Chocobo GP release date in March, you can wishlist the game on the Nintendo eShop right now if you want to. Here's hoping it offers some worthy competition for Mario Kart, because the karting genre seems a little underserved right now. We'll bring you more on Chocobo GP's Lite mode and what it entails as soon as we get it.
