Atomic Heart is almost upon us, with just a week to go until you get to play this alternate-history Soviet shooter. Focus is celebrating the countdown to launch by releasing a new live-action Atomic Heart trailer, which stars The Boys' Jensen Ackles and also appears to contain a cheeky reference to a certain wizard game.
The trailer begins with a young girl in a magical outfit attempting to destroy a dummy with a magic spell. The spell doesn't work, and the girl despondently snaps her wand in half. Luckily, the heroic Jensen Ackles, in the guise of Atomic Heart protagonist Major Nechaev, appears and uses a rather brutal-looking improvised melee weapon to help her. You can check the trailer out here.
It's not a stretch to imagine that the little girl with the ineffectual magic is a dig at Hogwarts Legacy, the launch of which you've probably noticed, what with all the trailers and tie-in peripherals. Of course, Ackles' weapon (or perhaps that should be Nechaev's weapon) has no trouble dismantling the dummy completely, although he does also use Atomic Heart's own brand of magic in the form of electrical powers.
If you've missed the hype around Atomic Heart, it's an open-world first-person shooter set in an alternate-history Soviet Union. As Major Nechaev, you must put a stop to a robot uprising that has also given rise to a bloodthirsty mutant problem. To do so, you'll have to improvise whatever weaponry you can scrounge up, upgrading what you've got as you go. You'll also have access to powers including lightning and telekinesis, which you can use to augment your combat abilities.
Atomic Heart is due to launch on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam on February 21st. It'll also be available on day one via Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
