For Honor, Ubisoft's new First Person hack and slash, had plenty of news revealed today during Gamescom 2016 in Cologne, Germany. For Honor was originally announced last year at E3 2015.
The first news is for the closed alpha of the game which will be available to those accepted between the 15th and 18th of September. Registration is still available so go and sign up while you can. This closed alpha wont be available in all countries so be sure to also check out the Ubisoft blog post to make sure you're eligible.

The full player lineup was also revealed including 12 playable characters. The previously mentioned factions; Knight, Viking, and Samurai, will each have four warriors that you are able to command. You will be able to fight across five different multiplayer modes called Dominion, Brawl, Duel, Extermination, and Skirmish.
Dominion is a 4v4 objective mode where you fight for objective points. Brawl has two players of two teams facing off against one another, once the enemy heroes have been defeated the round is won. Duel is as the name suggests, a 1v1 battle where you have to fight your enemy with your weapon, or the environment. Skirmish is the Team Deathmatch mode, and Elimination has you surviving to be the last man standing, no respawns.
The four different types of characters that each faction has are: Vanguards, Assassins, Heavies, and Hybrids. The Vanguard are balanced attack and defence, Assassins are faster that other fighters and have a high offence, the Heavies are slow and deadly, and the Hybrids mix different features of all of the other types. As you play you will gain experience that can be put into your warriors that you can then use in both PvP and PvE. You will be able to unlock new combat abilities and customization for your characters. In order to gain this renown you need to take into consideration what Hero Type you are playing.
- Vanguard will gain points for killing soldiers, capturing zones and reviving your allies
- As an Assassin you need to kill other heroes, contesting zones, and getting killstreaks
- Heavies will earn renown by defending against enemies and getting assists
- The Hybrid will get their points by being adaptable on the battlefield
It won't just be renown that you'll be earning as loot you pick up is also a large part of For Honor. At the end of a match you'll have a chance to get new armor and weapons. The gear will be able to raise the stats of your heroes, but it might also lower some stats so be sure to do research before you equip anything. As you raise your hero level the level of gear you unlock will also rise.
While you'll be able to take on other players in the multiplayer modes if you're playing split-screen on consoles it seems you'll only be able to take on bots.
For those who are really excited Ubisoft also announced the For Honor Collector's Case. This case will contain both digital and physical content including three 1/3 scale metal faction helmet replicas and the For Honor season pass. On top of that the Collector's Case will also include the game, an exclusive collectors box, an exclusive lithography, and the game's original soundtrack.
For Honor will be available on the 14th of February 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
