Game developer FK Digital has announced that they're halting development as of March 31, 2020. That means we'll see Chaos Code NEXT canceled as well, likely spelling the end of this fighting franchise for the near future.
You might not be familiar with the Chaos Code games, but you've probably heard of their publisher Arc System Works. While stuff like Guilty Gear and Blazblue are their flagship franchises, Arc System Works also publishes some other titles, some of which also happen to be fighting games. One of these franchises is the Chaos Code games developed by F K Digital.
Unfortunately, a press release has recently gone out which states that F K Digital won't be making any more games in the future.
"Today we truly regret to announce that for various reasons we made a decision to stop development of any new titles after March 31, 2020 (the existing titles are not affected)," the press release stated. "And we also regret to add that the development of our new title 'Chaos Code NEXT', which we only announced last month, will also be terminated."
Why Was Chaos Code NEXT Canceled?
Why is a game that was only just announced getting canceled so soon? The press release doesn't specify, but there is one important clue.
The press release notes that there won't be development of any new games after March 31, 2020. That particular date also happens to be the end of Fiscal Year 2019, a time when one year's budget ends and the next year's begins. If F C Digital has seen some cuts (or is closing entirely), that is the date that that would take effect.
They do, however, state that work on current titles isn't being affected, so it seems that there may still be some investment in keeping their current games update. It's a shame, but they do end things on a hopeful note.
"Taking a break is for accomplishing a longer journey. Hope we shall meet again sometime."
