Sony's purchase of Gaikai is already suggesting great things thanks to the announcement of PlayStation Now at CES during Sony's keynote. Sony plans to bring PS1, PS2, and PS3 game streaming to PlayStation 4, PS Vita, tablets, smartphones, and TVs this summer.

To demonstrate PlayStation Now, Sony showed off Beyond: Two Souls being streamed on a Sony Bravia TV (without a PlayStation 3) and The Last of Us on a PlayStation Vita.

Early hands-on demos showed exactly what Sony promised: lag-free gameplay. How well the service will perform outside of a controlled environment remains to be seen, however. Sony announced that a closed beta will start later in January, with the official rollout coming sometime this summer.

What makes this news particularly exciting is that Sony is not holding PlayStation Now hostage to specific Sony devices. In the official annoucement, Sony states the following: "Sony and non-Sony devices, Playstation Now will be available on the electronic devices gamers use most."

If Sony can partner with Android and iOS devices, it could easily dominate the video game market. The idea of playing games anywhere and moving them to where you currently are is an awesome idea, and as long as Sony can execute it, count me in!
