Towerfall developer Matt Makes Games Inc. has announced that their new title Celeste will be heading to the PlayStation 4 on January 25, 2018, in a post on the official PlayStation blog. The game is also being released on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on the same date.

Players take on the role of Madeline as she sets out to scale the absolutely massive Celeste Mountain. The mountain is split into over 700 levels filled with positively insane platforming challenges for the player to conquer. You'll meet strange characters and confront your inner demons as you head ever upwards with a combination of climbing, jumping, and air-dashing. Ambitious players can discover secret B-Side chapters featuring a number of even greater challenges for the platformer masochists out there. (I'm looking at you, I Wanna Be The Guy players.) Take a look at the game's trailer to see how you'll move and groove your way up the mountain:

Celeste is a platformer that's surely not for the faint of heart, although not everyone possesses the nigh-superhuman skills that some modern platformers might require to conquer. For those of us who just can't quite land that last critical jump, the game offers an Assist Mode. Assist Mode will let you toggle on a number of accessibility features that will make things a bit more forgiving such as additional air dashes or slower game speed. While it has set out to be a hardcore platforming experience, developer Matt Thorson acknowledges that not everyone can muster up the skill and reflexes to conquer such a game and so he put Assist Mode in to make it a little easier for the rest of us.

If you're keen on climbing a mountain in the style of a classic platformer with some modern touches, you'll be able to grab Celeste for the PlayStation 4 on January 25, 2018, for $19.99 or your regional equivalent. The game will also be available for the Nintendo Switch, the Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

What do you think of Celeste? Does it look like the kind of platformer you'd like to give a spin? Let us know in the comments below!
