Here's some interesting news in the slow buildup to the next game in the new Witcher trilogy: we now know who's going to be the Witcher trilogy game director. Sebastian Kalemba, the former head of animation and animation director on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, will be taking the reins. Kalemba had this to say about his new role:
I’m directing the new Witcher Saga. Since joining CD Projekt Red I believe nothing is impossible and raising the bar, telling emotional stories & creating worlds is what we’re here for. I’m proud to be part of CDPR and work with such a talented and passionate team.
As for what we can expect from the new Witcher trilogy, there isn't much information available right now. Its existence was only announced back in March. It's codenamed Project Polaris and as of October 5th, it's in the pre-production stage. The new trilogy has a lot of developers working on it, and with the addition of Kalemba as the new Witcher trilogy game director, we can but hope the project is moving forward relatively smoothly.
Recently, a remake for The Witcher was also announced. Like the new Witcher trilogy, it's going to be developed on Unreal Engine 5, giving it a visual fidelity that the original game could only dream of. One has to wonder if the first game's remake isn't just about introducing new fans to the series, but also reminding old fans about potential plot threads that they'll be using in the new Witcher trilogy. We'll have to see.
Eventually we'll receive more information about the new Witcher trilogy, another Witcher game that will have a multiplayer mode accompanied by a full campaign, and The Witcher remake.
