CD PROJKET RED, developers of The Witcher series of games and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, have announced the opening of CD PROJEKT RED Wrocław in a news post on their website.

Wrocław (pronounced "Vrots-waff", because that's how my ancestors like to roll) sits on the banks of the River Oder in Western Poland. It's the largest city in Western Poland and is home to quite a few game developers; most notably Dying Light developer Techland has an office in the city. They will soon be joined by the newly-minted CD PROJEKT RED Wrocław, a branch office of what is perhaps the best-known Polish game developer in the world.

“Wrocław is one of the biggest and most technologically advanced cities in Poland and a playing field for serious creative talent. I think the scope of our current and future projects, as well as the overall package we’re bringing in, will pull in people who were hesitant to move to Warsaw or Cracow.” -Adam Kiciński, CD PROJEKT Capital Group President & Joint CEO

The core of the new studio will be formed of 18 industry veterans, a goodly portion of which will be coming from developer Strange New Things. Strange New Things had been formed from industry professionals who had previously worked on Dying LightThe Witcher, and the 2016 Hitman game. The Wrocław studio will be assisting with the development of Cyberpunk 2077, the highly-anticipated cyberpunk role-playing game that is currently in the works. Cyberpunk 2077 will be the first original title released from the Poland-based developer that isn't a part of The Witcher universe. It was originally announced in May of 2012.

CD PROJEKT RED Wrocław is the third office opened for the company, joining locations in Warsaw and Kraków. As for the game they're working on, there are hints that Cyberpunk 2077 may be released in 2019 thanks to grant applications sent to the Polish government, but this isn't a firm date; the deadlines may be extended if need be.

What do you think of CD PROJEKT RED opening a new division to further advance work on Cyberpunk 2077? Do you think the game will live up to the expectations of fans? Let us know in the comments below!
