The Capital Wasteland mod for Fallout 4 has resumed work after a hiatus that lasted nearly a year. The mod team had encountered some difficulties in negotiating the use of Fallout 3 files with Bethesda and ended up with a workaround: they'll be using their own original voice actors.

It wouldn't be a Bethesda game without a copious amount of mods and Fallout 4 is no different. The game has been out long enough that modders are working on big projects like Fallout: Miami, a DLC-sized original story for the game. Some of the most interesting mods are "total conversions"—a completely original creation that doesn't involve the original game's plot, mechanics, and the like. The Capital Wasteland mod is one such venture that seeks to recreate Fallout 3 in the engine for Fallout 4.

The mod team says in a recent announcement that they spoke with Bethesda Softworks back in March of last year in an effort to secure permission to use the voice files from the previous game. Unfortunately, they were unable to come to an agreement and decided to temporarily halt work on the project while they tried to figure out a solution to this issue. Ultimately, the team behind the Capital Wasteland mod decided to use original voice talent to make the entire thing a non-issue.

The Capital Wasteland team notes that there are over 45,000 lines of spoken dialogue that need to be recorded for their Fallout 4 mod. As such, they're currently seeking voice actors to join their project. The modders need more than just voice actors, though! Here's what they're currently looking to add to their team:

  • Voice actors (high priority)
  • Level designers (high priority)
  • 3D artists (high priority)
  • 2D artists
  • Animators
  • Environment artists
  • VFX artists

What do you think of the Capital Wasteland mod for Fallout 4? Do you think they can recapture the magic of Fallout 3 without the original voice acting? Let us know in the comments below!
