Capcom Game Studio Vancouver has announced that its mobile puzzle game Puzzle Fighter is shutting down. The game will be removed from app stores on July 1 and servers will be shut down on July 31, according to a blog post.

In the post, the studio explains that it is shifting its focus to the Dead Rising series, and thanks fans who have supported the game thus far:

"Firstly, we’d like to thank all the fans who have supported and enjoyed our Puzzle Fighter mobile game thus far. As huge fans of Puzzle Fighter ourselves, the team here at Capcom Game Studio Vancouver is proud to have created a new version of the game that’s unique and enjoyable. As the studio is dedicating its focus to our flagship Dead Rising franchise, we have decided to sunset Puzzle Fighter."

As a thank you to fans, the team has gifted all players 10,000 in-game gem currency. They are also making upcoming characters (Regina, Dr. Wily and Ada Wong) and stages (Darminor and Uroboros Laboratory) available for free. The Puzzle Fighter soundtrack is also now available on SoundCloud. In addition, the previous Classic Mode special limited event will be available at all times up until the server closure. In-app purchases have been disabled, however any existing purchased in-game gem currency can still be used in the game to upgrade characters before the server is shut down.

Puzzle Fighter is a reboot of the '90s puzzle game, which launched late November 2017. It allowed players to play as iconic characters like Ryu, Ken, E. Honda and Chun-Li from Street Fighter, X from Mega Man, Morrigan from Darkstalkers, Frank West from Dead Rising, Mike Haggar from Final Fight and Jill from Resident Evil. The game was recently rated by the ESRB for console versions, though the news of the mobile game's closure casts some doubt on this.

Are you disappointed by the shutdown? Do you think that the game will still be coming to consoles in some form? Let us know in the comments.
