During Capcom's Street Fighter panel at San Diego Comic-Con today they announced, most likely to no one's surprise, that Ryu's eternal rival and counterpart, Ken, is joining the Street Fighter V roster.

This brings the announced roster up to seven among the previously announced characters Cammy, Chun-Li, Charlie, M. Bison, Birdie and Ryu, with many more promised to come.

The trailer shows off Ken's fast and flashy moveset, as well as a few stylistic changes, like wearing part of his hair up and wrapping the top of his iconic red Gi around his waist.  Most interesting, however, is the quick flashes at the end that reveal something that doesn't quite look like Ken.  I managed to catch a still from the quick cuts to show a yellow-eyed, black haired character.

It's hard to tell, but perhaps this could be an indication of a possible "Evil Ken", much like there was an "Evil Ryu" for several installments of Street Fighter, but it could be anyone's guess.

There is also now a date for the much-publicized Street Fighter V beta, which for the first run will be exclusive for PS4.  It will begin July 23rd, 6pm PDT in North America, and July 24th, 3am CEST in Europe, and will run for five days.

North American PSN users can automatically be accepted into the PS4 beta by pre-ordering Street Fighter V, but, somewhat restrictively, only if pre-ordered at either Gamestop, Best Buy, Amazon or Playstation Store.

Europe and Asia users can sign up for the beta program on the Street Fighter website.  The site also details that PC users can sign up for a Fall beta by pre-ordering the game on Steam.

Quick Take

As of right now, Capcom only seems to have revealed stalwart and returning franchise characters, with no brand new characters as of yet.  It would be nice to see if Capcom reveals some new faces for their crown jewel fighting franchise in the coming months, and I'm talking brand new characters as opposed to just re-tooled characters from other Capcom franchises.
