Campfire Cabal

If you're looking for more interesting studios to keep an eye on, Campfire Cabal has you covered. They're a new development studio founded by Expeditions: Rome developers and THQ Nordic to make narrative-driven RPGs. They're also currently working on an undisclosed title, and have developers at the studio who previously worked on the Hitman series and Hunt: Showdown, which is a decent amount of pedigree.

The reason that this is happening in the first place was that shortly after Expeditions: Rome released to great reviews while also cementing Logic Artists as a developer to watch-the studio closed down to make NFT games. Ugh. It's such a waste, too, because Logic Artists was a little indie studio that could, and did, become better and released more polished with each successive release. By Expeditions: Rome they had nearly perfected their style, only to throw it all away to make NFT games. It was heartbreaking.

Hopefully Campfire Cabal will provide more of this.

So, what can we expect from Campfire Cabal?

RPG's. Yes, I realize that isn't the answer you want to hear, but that's all I've got for you right now. A gaming developer creating games isn't news, but it is comforting to know that NFTs didn't take everything that gamers came to appreciate from Logic Artists. In fact, they're trying to create "vast worlds and rich stories with characters you’ll fall in love with or come to hate with a burning passion", which is definitely sticking to Logic Artists' strengths.

The studio will be led by its management team and Creative Director, Jonas Wæver, who was also the Creative Director for Logic Artists and worked there from 2011 to its dissolution earlier this year. That's a nice bit of continuity that should help give Campfire Cabal that familiar Logic Artists feel, but we'll have to see about that.
