Striking Distance Studio released today a free update for the survival horror game The Callisto Protocol including a new mode.
The update, which is free for all players, comes with a "Hardcore Mode" designed to push the player's skills to their limits with limited ammo and health drops, reduced contraband value, and more powerful and dangerous enemies.
The mode was revealed with a trailer, which you can watch here (you'll have to click through because YouTube doesn't like us to embed age-restricted videos).
The trailer also showcases the Outer Way Skin Collection, which has also been made available as a paid DLC and is the first of four scheduled DLCs included in The Callisto Protocol's Season Pass. There's more to come within the Season Pass purchase, including the Contagion Bundle in March and the Riot Bundle later in the spring featuring new modes and content. Things will culminate in Summer 2023 with new story content.
Incidentally, a previous update had already added the New Game+ mode, just in case you're more into making things easier for yourself instead of harder, at least when you've already completed the game once.
The Callisto Protocol is currently available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. If you're interested in learning more, you can enjoy our review which will tell you all you need to know about the game.
If you're unfamiliar with this brand new survival horror experience by Striking Distance Studio, helmed by Dead Space veteran Glen Schofield, Glen Schofield, it's set on Jupiter’s dead moon Callisto in 2320. The player takes on the role of a downed cargo pilot suddenly imprisoned in a maximum security penitentiary called Black Iron Prison. When a mysterious outbreak happens, he has to survive unimaginable horrors to escape the prison and discover the dark secrets of the United Jupiter Company.
