The new Call of Duty Cold War Zombies mode is bringing back a lot of fan-favorite mechanics, but it's also debuting an interesting change: for the first time ever, players will be able to escape the zombie horde.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is getting geared up for its November 2020 release date. We already know a bit about this next great game in the Black Ops subfranchise, and now the developers have revealed how the Zombies game mode will work in the new game.
If you haven't been keeping up with Call of Duty over the years, you may not know that the Zombies game mode has its own story that stretches across several games. As with the previous game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Activision will be rebooting the Zombies storyline in this latest game.
Everything kicks off when a World War 2-era bunker is discovered to not be quite as empty as we might have hoped. This releases the terrifying zombie horde onto the world, and a team of four players must do everything they can to fend them off.
Previous Zombies game mode experiences eventually ended when the player was overwhelmed, but that's going to be changing. This will arguably be one of the most substantial changes coming in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
"Instead of perishing to the horde, Black Ops Cold War Zombies provides a new option to escape with your life when you’re feeling overrun... if you dare," read a post on the Call of Duty blog.
"If the whole squad is in trouble, you can opt to exfiltrate the undead combat zone via helicopter. Although zombie spawns will be dialed up to 11, you should expect to earn some rewards if your squad completes this final push to survive."
This isn't the only substantial change, mind. Aside from the return of classic mechanics like the Pack-a-Punch machine and the ability to successfully escape from the map, players will now be able to progress their Battle Pass by playing Zombies for the first time ever.
When is the Call of Duty Cold War Zombies Release Date?
The Call of Duty Cold War Zombies release date is not entirely clear, although the Call of Duty blog post implies that it will be available at launch. If that holds true, we'll be able to play the Zombies game mode on November 13, 2020.
"Zombies is just one part of the full Black Ops Cold War experience, which is scheduled to launch November 13th," read the Call of Duty blog post.
One way or another, the next generation of Call of Duty is coming soon. You can pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War via the game's official website for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
