Activision has officially pulled back the curtain on the next Call of Duty title, and it will be returning to the series roots with Call of Duty: WWII.

Call of Duty: WWII has been in development by Sledgehammer Games, the team behind Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Thus far, only the teaser image above has been revealed about the title, with no announced release date at this time.

Following in the footsteps of Bungie with Destiny 2, a special livestream has been planned with Sledgehammer Games co-founders Michael Condray and Glen Schofield to reveal more information about the game to the public.

The livestream event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26th, at 10 AM PDT/ 1 PM EDT.

It has been speculated for a while now that Call of Duty would return to a World War 2 setting, including a leak from last month which showed off concept art and marketing materials for the game.

Quick Take

Sledgehammer Games work on Advanced Warfare three years ago was pretty solid. It was one of the few Call of Duty titles post Modern Warfare that I actually enjoyed playing, and it is good to see them spearheading a return to form, so to speak, with Call of Duty: WWII. It is likely a very good move too, as sales for the franchise have been sagging for a while now, never quite reaching the heights of the series back at Modern Warfare 3

I am curious as to what their take will be for WWII. Will it follow the classic Call of Duty setup of playing as the Allied powers of the U.S, Russia, and Britain? Will we get a chance to explore new theaters of war? We know the multiplayer will be solid but the possibilities for single-player, where Call of Duty really cut its teeth, are exciting again, and hopefully an adequate reason to pick up the franchise once more.

What are your thoughts on this though? Are you looking forward to Call of Duty: WWII? Leave your comments below.
