Bad news for Call of Duty: Mobile Zombies players: the game's developers have announced that the game mode is being removed before the end of the month.
"One of the most frequently asked questions to these updates is 'what about ZOMBIES Mode?' stated a portion of a recent community update on the game's official subreddit. "Today, after extensive evaluation we are sharing that ZOMBIES Mode is being removed on March 25th."
While the news is certainly disappointing to some, it should be noted that Call of Duty: Mobile Zombies was never guaranteed to be a permanent mode. Like many aspects of the CoD franchise, the devs like to let a piece of gameplay stick around for a while and see how it works with the community. Unfortunately, it seems that Zombies didn't quite achieve their vision.
"We had always mentioned [Zombies] was limited but with no explicit end-date," the community update continued. "We wanted to see the reception, see the feedback, and see how we can potentially shape the mode for the future. However, the mode just didn’t reach the level of quality that we desire. The second map, Nacht Der Untoten, is also not releasing in the global version."
Will Call of Duty: Mobile Zombies Ever Come Back?
Does the announcement of Zombies being removed from Call of Duty: Mobile mean that it's never coming back? Well, no, but we can't say how long it will be.
"We may bring the mode back," the community update continued, "with Nacht Der Untoten, once we can make sure it is high enough quality, but for now we’ll focus on development for Multiplayer, Battle Royale, and Ranked Mode."
It's not all bad news, though — Hardpoint is now going to be a permanent mode in the game. You can read more about this and other changes in the latest community update. If you haven't yet played the game, you can get into it for free for Android via Google Play and for iOS via the App Store. Zombies mode leaves Call of Duty: Mobile on March 25, 2020.
