Call of Duty Jetpacks Unlikely to Return Anytime Soon

Call of Duty jetpacks back

Did you enjoy the Call of Duty jetpacks in Infinite Warfare? Well, you're in the minority, then, because the fan outcry from their inclusion was so severe that Treyarch's Studio Design Director David "Vahn" Vonderhaar is unlikely to be bringing them back anytime soon.

If you're not a hardcore Call of Duty fan, you might not be aware that the game had taken a step into the future not all that long ago with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. While the Modern Warfare subfranchise brought about a resurgence of the series with its focus on, well, modern warfare, it seems that fans weren't too keen on all of the new gadgets from the futuristic setting. This, consequently, caused such a fan backlash that Mr. Vonderhaar is understandably gun shy about bringing them back.

Call of Duty Jetpacks Gave Studio Design Director 'PTSD'

As noted Call of Duty website CharlieIntel reports, a fan on Twitter more or less stated that they hoped to see Call of Duty jetpacks make their return in the next game.

"[You better] have jetpacks in the next [CoD]," the tweet by @PPerseting stated.

The response from Mr. Vonderhaar was, suffice it to say, less than enthusiastic.

"NO," Mr. Vonderhaar replied emphatically.

"Such short-term memories," he continued. "You hung me from the highest branch. No. NO. I have PTSD."

While it's likely that David Vonderhaar is speaking just a tad hyperbolically, his emphatic denial of Call of Duty jet packs making a return goes to show just how severe the fan reaction to their inclusion is. While we can joke about how little the CoD formula changes, it appears that even a yearly release such as this has its limits for what the player base will accept in terms of changes. Maybe a future Call of Duty game will get jet packs before actual soldiers do.
