Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Black Market Revealed

The Black Market is available on PlayStation 4 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The in-game store is available first on PS4 and seven days later on Xbox One and PC. The Black Market will introduce several ways for players to earn cosmetic items, unique weapons, emotes, and more. This happens has players are confused about the state of COD Points due to them not showing up in the game, despite being in multiple pre-order packages.

Firstly, the Contraband Stream provides players with a progression path to earn items by playing the game. The blog post on the Activision site doesn't list ways that you can spend real-money currencies on these items, but details that new items will be added through "seasonal Operations".

These Operations will deliver a new batch of content every couple of months, starting with the first season, Operation First Strike, which begins today on PS4. Each Operation will bring new Blackout characters, Specialist outfits, gestures and tags, and Signature Weapons.

The Black Market will also offer limited-time Special Events that will bring more unique content to the game. Beginning October 20 on PS4, and seven days later on other platforms, a free Halloween-themed event will begin and give players a limited time to access more gear. The blog post promises that this will be the first of many Special Events to be hosted.

In November, the Blackjack's shop will be coming online, where players can directly purchase certain pieces of gear with limited availability. The shop will refresh weekly with new items. The blog post does not specify whether players will be able to purchase these items with real money.

The Black Market goes live today on PS4 and seven days later on Xbox One and PC. PlayStation users will seemingly be getting seven days early access to most things coming to the game in future, including content patches and updates.

Quick Take

I think the way that the Black Market stuff has been rolled out (which will presumably include microtransactions but we still don't even know for sure) has been misleading and confusing. Allowing players to believe that the game has no such market and leaving them wondering where their preorder bonus COD points were. Activision still hasn't clarified whether COD points will be usable in this marketplace, or even what the currency will be used for in Black Ops 4. As someone who really likes Black Ops 4, this whole thing has been confusing, frustrating, and poorly handled.

What do you think? Are you excited for the Black Market to hit Black Ops 4, or are you annoyed by the platform exclusivity? Let us know in the comments!
