It confirms to me that we're in odd times that when a game gets a simultaneous retail release that it is worthy of a press release. But that is what times we live in it seems now.

Nordic Games has teamed up with Double Fine to do the distribution of the retail edition of Broken Age for PC, Mac and Linux. The release will be in Spring this year, simultaneous with the digital release of Part 2 of Double Fine's new adventure game. In other news, apparently new German voice-overs have been recorded for all characters.

While Double Fine has had its issues in general, and with Broken Age since getting funded, the first part was well liked. Part two was supposed to come out late last year but ended up getting delayed until early this year.

Broken Age is a classic point and click style adventure game that was Kickstarted several years ago. It was the game that started the kickstarter craze and also was promised to come with a documentary of the development for backers. Feature creep has been an issue for the game that delayed it, as was funds but it seems that it will be getting finished. Nordic Games worked with Double Fine some last year to release several games to retail, and had a few comments on the matter as did Tim Schafer.

“After releasing Costume Quest, Psychonauts and Stacking for retail in 2014, this marks another important step in our almost heist-free cooperation” said Reinhard Pollice, business & product development director at Nordic Games. “With Broken Age, 2015 starts off great for aficionados of the adventure game genre. Our intel also suggests that Germany is a veritable stronghold when it comes to pointing and clicking, hence the new German voice-overs for Broken Age make us very happy.”

"I am very excited about the retail version of Broken Age," said Double Fine President and CEO Tim Schafer, "And also relieved, as having a widely distributed, physical copy of the game will make it more safe from solar flares and EMP bombs and stuff like that. As long as people store their disks in fire proof safes. People do that, right?"

"Not really" replied COO Justin Bailey, "But people who purchase the physical copy can get to playing the exciting conclusion without having to wait for the game to download!"

What do you think of this new Distribution Deal? Do you think its odd that simultaneous releases are actually news now? What do you think of Broken Age? Tell us in the comments below!
