Gearbox Software and 2K have announced release details for the upcoming Borderlands 3. The game will be out on September 13th worldwide. On PC, it'll be a timed Epic Games Store exclusive, with a launch on other digital PC platforms planned for April 2020.
Borderlands 3 is the fourth mainline entry in the Borderlands series. Players will be able to choose from four entirely new Vault Hunters, each with unique abilities and skill trees. The new villains this time around are the Calypso Twins, a pair of ruthless cult leaders. Check out the new gameplay trailer for Borderlands 3 below:
Rumors have been flying about Borderlands 3's Epic Games Store release since a leaked tweet was spotted by eagle-eyed viewers. Since the tweet was posted on April 1st, some wrote it off as an April Fools gag. Seems like that's not the case, though. 2K president David Ismailer says the PC gaming community has been crucial to the Borderlands series' success, and that Epic "share in our commitment to bring Borderlands 3 to this rapidly expanding audience". Ismailer says 2K wants to embrace new distribution platforms and grow the game's audience.
The announcement of Borderlands 3's release date officially marks the beginning of what 2K and Gearbox are calling "the Year of Borderlands". The two companies are kicking off with a release of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition today on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This new version comes complete with remastered visuals, quality-of-life updates, and all the original add-on stuff for Borderlands. In addition, Gearbox and 2K have released an Ultra HD texture pack for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on consoles and PC which improves the visuals of both games included in that collection. Seems like users have already started review bombing the PC version of Borderlands: Game of the Year in response to the third game's timed Epic Store exclusivity.
