Reveal may have Leaked Early
In what appears to not be an April Fools joke, Gearbox's recently announced Borderlands 3 may be released later this fall, and will be heading to the Epic Games store.
The leak stems from twitter, where some eagle-eyed viewers were able to watch a twitter ad promoting the game sporting the familiar Epic Games store logo in the bottom left-hand corner. The tweet was subsequently deleted fairly quickly, but several clips of the video are still found on twitter now. The Epic Games logo is also nestled with the 2K and Gearbox logo only, leading many to speculate that the title will be Epic Exclusive, though this is of course also unconfirmed.
What's more, the official Borderlands 3 Twitter has also deleted a tweet saying the games release date will be September 13th, and that players who pre-order now will receive a Gold Weapon Skin Pack, similar to the previous Borderlands games.
It is currently unknown if this is an elaborate joke or not, but currently, Gearbox has not revealed anything about the brand new Borderlands game other than introducing the title through a new trailer last week.
It should be noted that Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has stated publicly that he supports the Epic store. Given the lack of a Steam logo there, it appears likely that Borderlands 3 will be an Epic Games Store exclusive.
There has been no official announcement on any of this information by Gearbox or 2K games at this time.
This honestly seems too likely to be real and not an April Fools joke. The question I guess then is will Borderlands 3 be exclusive or not to the Epic Games store, and if not, how long until a version shows up on Steam?
It is very likely that, regardless of which platform it shows up to on the PC, the console versions will be available at the same time at the very least. The only other question is whether or not that release date is accurate, if so, then Borderlands 3 will be a big hitter for the holiday season this year.
