As many await the release of loot-and-shoot title Borderlands 3, Gearbox announced plans for upcoming add-on content. Today at PAX West, the company revealed a calendar outlining release plans for Fall/Winter 2019.
First is the Bloody Harvest Event. A free event, it promises "spooky activities," and "unique event rewards." This suggests Bloody Harvest will be an October release, just in time for Halloween.
Second is the Maliwan Takedown. Maliwan is a gun manufacturer specializing in elemental weapons. The corporation is a key player in the Borderlands 3 plot. Takedowns are similar to MMO-style raids, presumably like Vermivorous the Invincible and Terramorphous the Invincible in Borderlands 2. This free content update includes a new map and enemies, as well as a new boss with powerful rewards.
The third piece of content will cost money. Gearbox has not announced the DLC's title, but the DLC is included in the Borderlands 3 Season Pass.
However, the update calendar isn't the only thing to emerge from PAX West. Players can enter at the Gearbox Loot website to have a chance to purchase the Diamond Loot Chest Collector's Edition. Retailing for $189.99, it includes a diamond loot chest replica, 10 Borderlands 3 character figurines, a Sanctuary 3-snap model, four Vault key chains, a cloth galaxy map, and five character art lithographs. Entrants should take note, however, that this Collector's Edition does not include the base game Borderlands 3. This is, other than the lack of a copy of the game, the same Collector's Edition that was sold out on GameStop before it could be officially revealed at PAX East and Gearbox said they wanted to make it available to more people, and the lack of a copy of the game was to respect people having already preordered the game.
In addition to the Diamond Loot Chest and content calendar, Gearbox unveiled details about the Borderlands 3 endgame. Details included a new Mayhem Mode, updates to Badass Ranks, and the return of a notorious difficulty mode.
Borderlands 3 releases September 13 for the PlayStation 4, XBox One, and PC (on the Epic Games Store). Gearbox plans to release the game on Steam in April 2020.
Quick Take
Still playing through The Pre-Sequel. Everything about the upcoming game looks amazing, and I'm eager to give it a try.
