Developer Koji Igarashi has shown off a new E3 trailer and screenshots for their kickstarter project Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

According to an update on the Kickstarter, Bloodstained will have a playable demo at E3 this year, involving parts of the church stage and a boss at the end of the demo, the vampiric mistress Bloodless. The trailer shows off the stage and some of the game's action.

A number of screenshots were also shown off, showing the church level and Bloodless in action. Igarashi noted that the demo at E3 will be shorter, but much harder compared to last year's demo, as well as other improvements to the game being made to the public for the first time.

Bloodstained is a "metroidvania" style action game, made to invoke the style and gameplay of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The game stars Miriam, an orphan that has been scarred by an alchemist's curse that slowly transforms her body into a crystal. As her curse grows, Miriam delves into a deep coma and wakes up ten years later in a castle, finding a demonic presence throughout the grounds. Her goal is to kill its summoner, the wizard Gebel, and stop the demonic horde.

The game will feature the voices of David Hayter (Metal Gear Solid) and Robbie Belgrade (Castlevania), and music from famed composer Michiru Yamane, who wrote the scores to the original Castlevania and most recently, the fighting games Super Smash Bros. and Skullgirls.

Bloodstained has been in development for over three years, with the Kickstarter launching back in May of 2015. The game has progressed steadily, with the only major changes coming from the platform the game will be available on, with the Wii U version being officially canceled in favor of the Nintendo Switch.

Currently, Bloodstained does not have an official release date but is planned to be released in 2018.
