Unfortunate news for gamers on less-popular operating systems: Bloodstained Linux and Mac versions have been canceled. Unfortunately, it seems that developing the game on these operating systems was a little too much for the development team to handle.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night can best be described as a spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. This probably has a lot to do with longtime Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi being part of the team behind this upcoming game. It was planned to come out on quite a few platforms, but two of those platforms were just removed from the list: the Bloodstained Linux and Mac versions have been canceled.

The Bloodstained Linux and Mac versions were canceled "due to challenges of supporting middleware and online feature support" as said in a recent backer update on the game's Kickstarter page. The development team was also concerned with their ability to deliver a product that was up to their standards on these operating systems.

This is the third time that a platform has been canceled for this game. Development halted on the Wii U version in light of that console's end of life and the Vita version was canceled due to Sony stopping support for their handheld console. The game hasn't only been removing platforms, though—a Nintendo Switch version was added to the possible platforms after the reveal of that console a couple of years ago.

Thankfully, gamers who were looking forward to the Bloodstained Linux and Mac versions aren't going to be left completely out in the cold. Backers who selected either of these two platforms will be able to select a new one for the game. The development team sincerely apologized for the inconvenience of this change, although no offer of refunds was made to those impacted.

Hopefully, we'll be seeing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night coming to PC and consoles sometime in 2019. In the meantime, you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam or check out the prequel Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon.

What do you think of the Bloodstained Linux and Mac versions being canceled? Were you looking forward to playing the game on either of those operating systems? Let us know in the comments below!
