Artplay and 505 Games are aware of the performance issues Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is having on Nintendo Switch. The studios are working to fix the problem.

In a series of posts on the official Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Twitter account, the devs confirmed they were aware of the hybrid console's performance problems. They say Update 1.01 on Switch was intended to add content and improve the game's performance. The update didn't have the effect the devs were hoping for, so they're "immediately shifting resources" to improve performance and stability on Switch.

The Twitter thread clarified that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night would receive several smaller updates rather than one large one. These updates will focus on different areas of the game, thereby improving overall performance little by little. Artplay and 505 say they'll have more details for players as work continues. We're not sure exactly what these updates will consist of, so watch this space for more info as we get it.

The Nintendo Switch version of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night hasn't met with the greatest reception. Some players are reporting significant frame drops in the game. Back in April, the official Bloodstained Kickstarter page addressed some concerns that the game wasn't up to snuff on Switch. Seems like this issue hasn't gone away in the intervening months. The Switch version is already capped at 30 FPS, so further technical issues aren't promising for Nintendo's console.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night launched for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on June 18th. A Switch release followed a week later on June 25th. The game is a spiritual successor to producer Koji Igarashi's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and its non-linear sequels. Players control Miriam, a Shardbinder who must stop her rival Gebel from waging war on humanity with a legion of demons. PS4 and Xbox One players have already been hit by a nasty progress-killing bug in the game. If you've picked it up on Switch, make sure you update your game before you play it or you might not be able to make progress.
