Board game publisher Asmodee has just announced, via Asmodee Digital, a new digital adaptation of their famed tabletop game Blood Rage, available for pre-order now on Steam and hitting the market on May 27th, 2020.
Blood Rage, developed by hit game designer Eric Lang, is a unique blend of several different tabletop genres, including miniature combat, area control, and card drafting. In the game, each player takes control of one of seven Viking clans — Wolf, Serpent, Ram, Bear, Raven, Stag, and Wild Boar — in the hopes of gaining the most glory before the end times, Ragnarök comes and destroys everyone and everything. Only those with the most glory will ascend and take their rightful place in Valhalla.
Players draft cards from the supply for use in their quest for glory, which include quests they can go on, boosts in battle, and more. And players also gain the benefits of various gods from the Norse pantheon, which each god giving different boosts and rewarding players in different ways. For instance, Fridge will help your clan by providing various resources and support, while Loki can help your clan by rewarding glory for losing battles.
Throughout the game, there are a wide variety of ways to rack up glory and earn your place in the afterlife. You could destroy your foes in battle, tangle with mythological beasts, embark on quests to raise your stature with the gods, and even die gloriously while in battle. In Blood Rage Digital Edition, players can play solo against AI, via local multiplayer (using hotseat functionality), or online multiplayer using ranking and leaderboards.
This digital adaptation of Blood Rage also features a cool little note we don't often see in the digital board game space: the figures you use to play the game online are 3D scans of the original models used in the physical tabletop game.
The game launches on May 27th, but players can preorder Blood Rage Digital Edition now on Steam with a 10% discount, and that comes with two exclusive bonuses as well: the Mythical Monsters DLC pack (which includes more rare monsters to fight against and aid in your quest for glory) and the official digital soundtrack.
