After months of waiting, the Blizzcon Online dates have finally been announced by Blizzard Entertainment — you'll be able to learn about what's coming for their games in February 2021.
Earlier this year, Blizzard Entertainment made the announcement that it had canceled Blizzcon 2020. The news was certainly disappointing to many, but it wasn't entirely unexpected; the coronavirus pandemic had caused pretty much every major gaming event to be canceled or postponed.
The cancellation of this year's show was especially those of us who were anxious to learn more about Overwatch 2, Diablo 4, and the company's other games. However, we wouldn't necessarily have to wait until November 2021 to see the next Blizzcon: Blizzard had left the door open to something else happening.
"We’re talking about how we might be able to channel the BlizzCon spirit and connect with you in some way online, far less impacted by the state of health and safety protocols for mass in-person gatherings," Blizzard said in its cancellation announcement. "We’d want to do this as soon as we could, but given that this is new-ish territory and the different factors involved, it will most likely be sometime early next year."
After much waiting, we finally know that we won't have to wait until October or November 2021 — Blizzconline is coming.
When Are the Blizzcon Online Dates?
The Blizzcon Online dates will be Friday, February 19–Saturday, February 20, 2021. That will make Blizzcon Online — or "Blizzconline", as it's calling it — roughly the same length as previous shows.
As this will be an online-only show, the content will naturally be a little bit different. There will still be a cosplay contest and other ways for fans to participate in the show — the Blizzcon Online dates announcement mentions several deadlines for these contests.
The announcement is certainly welcome news, but there are still a lot of details missing. We haven't yet heard anything about the Blizzcon 2021 Virtual Ticket, but that's not too surprising; after all, Blizzconline is 5 months away.
In effect, Blizzcon 2020 has effectively been delayed by 3–4 months. Blizzard has always gone with the philosophy of releasing stuff "when it's done" and it seems that the same philosophy is being applied to its gaming convention. You'll be able to catch up on the latest developments in Blizzard Entertainment games on the Blizzcon Online dates of February 19–20, 2021. You can find out more about the convention on its official website.
