It has now been six years since Blizzard released Diablo III, which means that the community is starting to get somewhat jittery and anxious. Enter Brandy Camel, Diablo Community Manager! In a recent video on the Diablo Youtube Channel, Camel announced that not only one, but multiple Diablo projects are in the works, and will be revealed "later this year".

"We’d also like to let you know that the forges here at Blizzard are burning hot. And we have multiple Diablo projects in the works. Some of them are going to take longer than others. But… we may have some things to show you later this year."
Camel also discusses the recent introduction of themed seasons in Diablo III, the first one being Greed. If you've been away from Diablo for a while, you can get up to speed in our write-up on the ups and downs of the journey of Diablo III.

With Blizzcon coming up on November 2, it may not be too presumptuous to assume that there will be an announcement then. The speculation machines are sure to enter high gear as we near the conference: Just how many is "multiple projects"? Will there be a direct sequel to Diablo III? Perhaps most importantly, if one game will be a traditional Diablo IV, what genre will any additional projects be? Diablo Royale, anyone? Sorry, I take that back. Please, don't.

The latest Diablo III expansion, Rise of the Necromancer, introduced the Necromancer class.

Although Blizzard abandoning the Action RPG genre altogether would be surprising, they have done so in the past, moving the Warcraft IP across genres from RTS to MMO. Admittedly, this made more sense since they already had another RTS franchise with Starcraft.

If you want to see the announcements live, your best bet is probably to go to Blizzcon. The third batch of tickets will be available on August 18, for $199. While the Virtual ticket price and contents have yet to be announced, they will definitely be a thing, so you will still be able to catch all the announcements live without selling your kidney.
