Publisher Team17 and developer The Game Kitchen have announced that a major Blasphemous 2 DLC expansion is coming next month, and that a free update will be released alongside said expansion.

Mea Culpa will bring new zones, new bosses, and a brand new alternative ending to Blasphemous 2, and it's launching, appropriately enough, on October 31st. Hopefully, you'll be able to find enough time to put down Dragon Age: The Veilguard to check it out.

In total, you can look forward to two new zones and two new bosses in Mea Culpa, as well as four new NPC quests. A new weapon (presumably the Mea Culpa of the title, which was the Penitent One's sword in the first game) will also be added in the DLC.

Blasphemous 2 is getting some juicy new DLC, as well as a free update.

As well as Mea Culpa, a free update is also on its way to Blasphemous 2, and it'll launch on the same day as the DLC.

The True Torment Update brings a number of improvements to Blasphemous 2, including a New Game Plus mode, a "host of upgrades for the Penitent One", and a ton of quality-of-life improvements.

You can also expect expansions to the Choir of Thorns, Sunken Cathedral, and Basilica of Ancient Faces zones, which The Game Kitchen says will add "new challenges to explore and conquer".

New connections between zones have also been added to facilitate faster travel, and the Labyrinth of Tides has a new challenge for you to take on. The update will also bring new enemies across the whole of Blasphemous 2's world.

If you're unfamiliar with Blasphemous 2, it's the sequel to 2019's Metroidvania Blasphemous. Like its predecessor, the sequel is heavily themed around religion, with much of the game's terminology, as well as many of its enemies and aesthetics, strongly evoking Christian concepts and themes.

You can check out Blasphemous 2 right now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The Mea Culpa DLC and the True Torment update launch on October 31st. To whet your appetite while you wait, you can take a look at my review of Blasphemous 2 right here.
