Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches next month, but Treyarch are already planning much further ahead. They have announced their plans for content releases for the rest of the year. This content will be available first on PS4.

The content will be free for all players and Treyarch have said that they have a lot more planned than what they're currently announcing. Nuketown, the fan-favorite map that has appeared in every Black Ops game in some form, will be coming in November, and a new Specialist will launch in December. They say they have a "number of new Specialists" already in development.

Blackout will also see some free updates post-launch. Black Ops 4's new Battle Royale mode will get "map updates, expansions and new modes for everyone". They didn't give any more details about these updates but promised more info to come soon. It's unclear whether we'll see new whole new maps for this mode. Map packs have always been a common thing for Call of Duty, but creating new maps for up to 100 players is a lot more work.

The beta period for Blackout ran earlier this month and the response was mostly pretty positive. Treyarch began the beta with an 80 player limit before increasing it to 88. They finally upped it to 100 in the final days of the beta.

Treyarch has also promised "many seasonal and time-limited events that will deliver new game modes and content". This content will presumably be free like the seasonal events for WWII were.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches Oct. 12 on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.

Quick Take

Personally, I'm very curious to see what they'll do with post-launch content for Blackout. They've promised new modes and modifiers, but I'd be pretty impressed if they put out new maps on a semi-regular basis.
