A new Microsoft Flight Simulator has landed, and this one is all about Australia. It's adding four handcrafted airports, hi-res detail to lots of existing airports and points of interest, and plenty of new activities and challenges to do as well.

What's in the new Microsoft Flight Simulator update?

The new Microsoft Flight Simulator update is the seventh upgrade to the game's world, originally teased in the 2022 roadmap. After the sixth world update overhauled Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, the seventh is looking Down Under, overhauling many of Australia's landmarks and airports. The devs say they've added high-resolution detail to more than 100 existing airports, as well as custom crafting 94 new points of interest to spot as you soar over the gorgeous Australian outback.

As well as the visual overhaul to Australia, the new update is also bringing lots of new stuff for you to do. There are 16 brand new activities, broken down into five new bush trips, six discovery flights, and five new landing challenges to take on. New challenges include landing over Brisbane, discovering the Gold Coast, and taking bush trips to Tasmania, the Great Barrier Reef, and the northwestern Kimberly Coast, among others. Be sure to check out the official Xbox announcement post to see everything that's new.

What's next for Microsoft Flight Simulator?

Per the 2022 roadmap, there's plenty more content on its way to Microsoft Flight Simulator this year. The new Antonov AN-2 aircraft is due later this month, and a new Sim Update is also coming then, likely improving gameplay aspects in line with previous updates of its kind. We're also getting a new World Update sometime in March, as well as a new Local Legend aircraft to check out. This is just over the next few months, too, so there's likely to be lots more stuff on its way as 2022 gets underway.

If you're already a fan of this franchise and you're yet to check the latest game out, be sure to pick up the Game of the Year Edition, which bundles in five new aircraft and several new airports. That's in addition to all of the content updates already released for the game, of course. Stay tuned for more info on future Microsoft Flight Simulator updates and more.
