The roller coaster ride that is NylonGate has taken a turn for the better. Bethesda is going to compensate Power Armor Edition owners of Fallout 76 with the original canvas bag as was advertised.

Bethesda support took to Twitter today to announce plans to manufacture the canvas bag that was supposed to come in the $200 edition of the game:

Follow the link in the Tweet to submit a support ticket with Bethesda. It will take you immediately to the sub-category under "Billing / Purchase / Code." Then, choose "Power Armor Edition Bag Replacement Request Form."

In this form, you will have to have to attach a picture with proof of purchase, provide your name, address, and phone number. Do this by January 31st, and if you did indeed buy Fallout 76: Power Armor Edition, you will have your bag shipped.

If you remember from last week, the reason Bethesda did not provide the advertised canvas bag was due to "unavailability of materials," while shutting down original claims from a contracted support employee that these bags were too expensive to make.

As a result, Bethesda compensated Power Armor Edition owners with 500 atoms with proof of purchase. This didn't sit well with the community, and now it seems they are taking steps to assure that owners get what they expected.

Later in the week, it was discovered that certain Fallout influences (i.e. YouTube personalities and streamers) received a canvas backpack from a promotional event held at The Greenbrier in West Virginia a month before launch. While it was not the same bag, it raised questions and sparked further outrage.

Now, Fallout 76: Power Armor Edition owners can get the bag they wanted from the start, thus ending one controversy related to the game.

Quick Take

It was quite a roller coaster ride, as I said, to watch this whole thing unfold. While the original lawsuit for deceptive trade practices still remains, the bait and switch aspect of it is likely undermined. I'm just glad to see that Power Armor Edition owners are getting that bag, but I'm also perplexed at Bethesda. It seems even more evident now that they thought they could swap the bags and get away with it since they are now making bags out of materials that they claimed were "unavailable."
