For months now, I have repeatedly suggested that Koei Tecmo and Omega Force's upcoming Berserk musou have the low-level apostle Wylad as a playable character. It appears my half-joking prayers have paid off, as Famitsu has revealed that the latest character to join the ever-growing roster is none other than the Devil Dog himself.
For those unfamiliar, Wylad is a very minor villain in Berserk - he only gets around six chapters worth of action in the manga, and was cut completely from all previous anime and video game adaptations. He is one of the first supernatural elements to show up in the timeline, acting as a doglike man before showing his true form - a somewhat ape-esque giant demon that quite infamously has a barbed penis tongue (It's Berserk, roll with it) that gets cut in half by our hero Guts.
It appears that most of his attacks from the manga are accounted for here - from his humble club to the ability to swing around a massive tree trunk to knock foes away, although his impaled female torso weapon is (understandably) absent. And much like the previously-featured apostle Nosferatu Zodd, Wylad also gets to transform into his aforementioned apostle form. It is safe to say his tongue probably won't be featured in the game.
Also mentioned on the website is the presence of Adon and Boscogn, two villains from Berserk's Golden Age Arc will be featured as powerful enemies in the Golden Age levels. Curiously, they also name dropped Grunbeld, who feels like much too big of a player in the overall Berserk story to be relegated to a simple side-bit. At this point, only time will tell if the dragon apostle will be lifting his mighty shield when the game releases this fall on PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and PC.
I have no words. They actually did it, the absolute madmen. Now all we need is playable Father Mozgus and we will literally have the best game ever on our hands.
