Relive the Supernatural Action on PC
SEGA and Platinum Games have finally finished up their April Fool’s surprise. After releasing the small title 8-Bit Bayonetta on April Fool’s Day, SEGA hid a link in some of the achievements for the game. Going to this link led to a countdown timer with an image of Bayonetta in the background. The timer has now run out, and SEGA released the original Bayonetta on Steam.
The character action game, originally released in 2009, follows the story of the titular Umbra Witch. With no memory of her past life 500 years ago, Bayonetta searches for answers in the holy city of Vigrid. Of course, things quickly spiral out of control from there. The gun-toting heroine must find out her past in order to help her save the world.
Bayonetta focuses on action, as you’d expect from the creator of Devil May Cry. Hideki Kamiya created the franchise in 2009, originally on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. From there, a sequel was in the works but SEGA hit some hard times. Platinum Games went to several companies, and eventually, Nintendo funded both the sequel and a port of the original to the Wii U. This helped push the character into the limelight a bit more, with Bayonetta 2 winning TechRaptor’s Pick of the Year in 2014.
Bayonetta’s popularity grew further when she was announced as a DLC character for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and for 3DS. She was the most popular “reasonable” choice in the Smash Ballots that Nintendo offered, and her inclusion sparked a second print run of Bayonetta 2.
All this publicity leads to this PC release of Bayonetta, which offers unlocked resolution and solid 60fps gameplay. The game, available on Steam right now, costs $19.99. If you buy before April 25th, you upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition automatically. This version of the game comes with a 5-track soundtrack sampler and a digital artbook from the original Deluxe Edition. However, this one has even more art in it for buyers.
